An imaginative tale, brimming with ideas, metaphysical and plot-wise. Not your average BDSM tale, this. It's sci-fi, set in a future where Mankind has colonised other planets-in this case the relevant planet is Ballista. Set amongst growing civil unrest as rebel forces try to gain control of the planet.
The plot continuously and delightfully confounds one's expectations with interesting and unexpected turns-to describe them would take away the fun of reading this tale. In essence, Scorch, the hero, is mentally programmed using technology that allows access to his innermost thoughts. His psyche is reshaped in such a way that he is unable to allow any harm to come to his charge- the heir apparent to the throne of Ballista, the arrogant and scheming lady Jacqueline.
The book comes in at 253 pages and is fast-paced, never lets up the action, or the sex. But it never rambles or becomes confusing. Clearly, Master Nage had a lot of fun writing this. He writes very well, with exuberance, and doesn't skimp on the sex.
But there are other themes, other than erotic ones, being explored here- the metaphysics of D/s. Control. Self- control and controlling others. Scorch, psychologically restrained, has to stand by idly while his Mistress whom, he initially both adores and despises, lets others "think" they're dominating her, and vice versa.
Free-will, choice, emotional switching and resuming different sexual masks. Who exactly is topping who, is played out in political games of manipulation. Master Nage is also writing about the Human mind, of being held without consent in mental bondage, rather than the physical. interesting and complex questions arise as to the nature of dominance and submission.
He writes, for example:
"It's going to be awfully 'hard' on you, I would think, having to watch me all day, every day. I wonder how that would be. To see me always in your mind, but never be able to have me. I'd think it might finally drive a man insane, don't you?"
With those words, she reached behind and deftly undid the magnetic strip that held her dress closed. I watched as it slid off her shoulders and all the way to the floor. She wasn't wearing any undergarments. Just like that, she was completely naked before me.
"Do you like the way my body looks? I bet you do. I bet you'd love to slide that thick, hard cock inside me. You'd like that, wouldn't you, Frank? But you can't, can you? You can't risk hurting me. In a way, it's too bad. I think you'd make a splendid lover, even if you are only a commoner."
I felt my cock harden, but refused to touch it. If I didn't react, maybe she would grow tired of the sport.
|
|||
Most of the major character involved in the sexual scenes have been programmed, cerebrally raped, and fight against their Pavlovian libido responses with varying degrees of success, and the writer goes to great pains to point out that re-programming is an evil that will inevitably fail.
A clever spin. And as far my own experiences of having read many BDSM stories, Scorch is a fresh and much needed psychological examination of the emotional power play of BDSM.
It's also a ripping good yarn. Highly recommended.

Oil
tycoon, shipping magnate, thaumatologist and disinherited aristocrat,
G. Russell feeds his senses by indulging his passions in frivolous, casual
sexual encounters with anyone. He enjoys his precarious spare time breeding
homunculi, tiny creatures no more than four inches high and wholly subservient
to his will. He also writes late into the night and has been published
everywhere. With the exception of the novel, Mni pot chanting, light opera,
and fado. Well- read, erudite, suave, strikingly handsome, and much sought
after by discerning women with gargantuan sexual appetites. He is availiable
for discrete perversions, but remains happily married.
